ANSI Position on Protection of Copyright for Standards Referenced into Public Law

DISCLAIMER/BACKGROUND INFO:
While it has been argued by some that model codes and standards referenced into law should be available for free, ANSI believes that such a position would thwart the public interest in encouraging creativity in the development of such codes and standards. By resolution adopted by the ANSI Copyright Group on October 22, 2008, it was decided that ANSI post to this folder the following documents which the Copyright Group believes best articulates ANSI’s position on the importance of preserving copyright protection for codes and standards referenced into law: the amicus brief for Veeck v. Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., the OMB Circular A-119, the U.S. Standards Strategy and the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act (Public Law 104-113). This folder contains some reference information and is not intended to be a comprehensive collection of all reference materials on this subject.
